Small Heroes was founded by Dave Hollinger’s childhood friend William Small and his wife Alison in the winter of 2018 after their two sons Hunter (4) and Noah (2) were diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Duchenne is a progressive, fatal disease of the muscles and there is no cure. Most boys with Duchenne are wheel chair bound by age 12 and do not live past their 20’s. While the Smalls were devastated by this diagnosis, they soon learned there was hope in this community as a cure is near. Small Heroes was started to raise awareness about Duchenne and raise money to help support clinical research and trials that can change the course of the disease.
